Secret Gardens Kamakura Area

If you wander the narrow streets of the sleepy town Kamakura nowadays, it is hard to imagine that it used to be the world’s biggest city at the beginning of the Japanese medieval era. A lot of the temples and shrines have seen wars, fires, times of peace and times of neglect over the 700 or more years, but survived until today – together with their gardens.

No matter how long the moss-covered secret gardens of Kamakura have been around – Every year they repeat the cycle of life anew. The sweet smell of the plum trees in winter, the soft pink and white cherry blossoms in early spring and the bold purple and violet of the hydrangea during rain season, the changing of the leaves’ colors in late autumn – in every season, they stimulate the visitors eye and comfort their hearts.
