Paulownia wood is light, soft, and highly hygroscopic, so it has long been used as a material for high-end wooden geta. Shinedozome by Marukyu Shōten <矢鱈縞>鉄紺 (random stripes) These stripes were randomly carved by a craftsman. Stripes made without a ruler have just the right amount of fluctuation. The iron navy dyed on the gray fabric is a calm blue. For this tenugui, Ise Katagami -owned by Marukyu Shōten- was used. Ise Katagami is a special paper with hand-carved patterns originally used for dying yukata. Ise Katagami is designated as an important intangible cultural property.
